    Reference: John F. Chandler.

Reference: "A History of Framington, Massachusetts," by William Berry (18
47 Boston) at p. 182 providing that John receivend land in Sudbury Massach
usetts in 1639, that he was later a selectman in Sudbury and that he recei
ved a commission to assign timber in 1641. He apparently served in the mi
litia or in a military type unit under Major Simon Willard as John was lis
ted as a trooper in Dedham, Massachusetts on November 11, 1654. It lis
ts that his wife was Martha; however, no last name is listed for Mart
ha in this reference. This source goes to provide that John and Martha Be
nt had the following children: Peter, who married Elizabeth; John; Josep
h, who married Elizabeth; Agnes, who married Edward Rice; and Martha, w
ho married Samuel Howe. It is difficult to read, but it appears that Jose
ph Bent, John's son, was accidently killed by a pistol shot by either h
is brother, Peter or Peter's son Peter in 1675.
