OBITUARY--W. H. DAY
Wilson H. Day, the son of Seymour and Eliza Day was born the 10th of October, 1857, at Maquoketa, Iowa, and died at Saint Francis Hospital at Waterloo, Iowa, April 21st, 1935. His death resulted in complications following an operation. He has enjoyed excellent health all through life and had hardly known illness until a year ago. During the past winter his health had gradually failed.
The deceased was educated in the public schools of Fayette County, Iowa; and taught for several years in district schools. In his early twenties he went west looking for opportunities, and while working in Salt Lake City, he met and married Rose J. Hawks on June 9th, 1886.
After the birth of their first daughter, the deceased and his wife returned to Oelwein, Iowa, where he farmed for many years, and held various positions of responsibility and trust. In 1918 he retired from active work, later moving to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where the three unmarried children graduated from Iowa State Teachers College. For the past two years, he and his loving wife have lived quietly at 225 West Parker St., Waterloo, Iowa, enjoying the frequent visits of their devoted children, relatives and friends.
Mr. Day has long been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church having last been affiliated with the church of Cedar Falls. Surviving him are his devoted wife, and life's companion, Rose J. Day, four sons, Glyde W. of Aurora, Iowa, Frank S. of West Portal, Colorado, Arthur J., Hazleton, and Richard D., Ames, Iowa, and five daughters, Mrs. H. E. Birchard, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Harold Brownell, Stanley, Mrs. F. F. Gorton, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Mrs. T. E. Stevens, Oelwein, Miss R. Pauline Day, LeGrande, Oregon, together with 18 grandchildren, one brother George Day and one sister, Mrs. R. D. McDonald of Tacoma, Washington. Two sisters, Mrs. Alice Sackville, Mrs. Effie Hough preceded him in death. The service was held at the home at 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. W. G. Crowder of Cedar Falls officiated. The appropriate vocal numbers were given b Hilmore Cedarholm of the Burton Avenue Baptist Church. The two youngest sons and four grandsons acted as pallbearers. Interment was at Otsego cemetery near Oelwein.
