Nov. 1760: The vestry minutes of Antrim Parish, Halifax County, VA meeting state: "To Nathaniel Ayres for Sundries found said [Astins?] child - Do- 200." [Vestry Book of Antrim Parish, Halifax County, Virginia, 1752-1817, Halifax County, Virginia: Episcopal, 2002]
Some say he was born in Snowden/Snowdon, Wales but so far we just don't know.
WILL of Nathaniel Ayers Deed & Will Book 5, page 425-436, Pittsylvania County, Virginia
In the name of God Amen, I Nathaniel Ayres of the County of Halfax, and Colony of Virginia, do make and appoint this my last will and testament, prohibiting all other wills and testaments, before the date hereof, and I do recommend my soul to God, who gave it and my body to the dust to be buried in decent Christian order, and for my worldly estate to the following manner at my decease. I do will that all my movables and lands that I have shall be sold for money and I do dispose of it as follows among my children.
To my eldest son Thomas Ayres I give forty pounds in lieu of all my lands, that he may inherit none of my land.
To my son Moses Ayres I give forty pounds, which I own myself justly indebted to him.
To my beloved wife Rhody Ayres a third part of all the rest of my estate, and shall remain over and above her third, I do dispose of as followeth, and first.
I give and bequeath to Patience Jones my granddaughter five pounds and also to Mary Ayres five pounds,
To the daughters of Moses Ayres ten pounds
And I also give and bequeath to my son Regimalick Baker Ayres twenty-five pounds and the rest of my estate to be divided in ten equal parts.
I give Moses Ayres two parts and also to son Daniel Ayres two parts more out of the ten parts, and the six parts that still remain shall be equally divided to between my daughter Yankay Payne and son Regimalick Ayres and Thomas Ayres.
And my two sons Thomas and Moses Ayres whom I appoint executors of my will in trust to make my son Daniel Ayres a good and lawful rite at my death to a certain piece of land containing eighty six acres and a half lying as followeth above the upper double creek joining and running with Spurlock's line and to be divided from the rest of my land by a line running the same course and Spurlock's line that I join which land I have given him in satisfaction for a planation which he hath made me and for the performance of the rite of said land I have given to my son Daniel Ayres a bond for five hundred pounds personally and I desire that all the executors above mentioned do see that my last will and testament be done and witness hereof I the said Nathaniel Ayres have set my hand and seal to this my last will and testament this third day of September in the year of our Lord God 1776.

**Note of caution to reader: Over the years the various lines of men named Nathaniel AYERS have become almost hopelessly entangled. There is data saying that the children of Nathaniel in NJ are the same children of Nathaniel in VA and vice-versa. The Nathaniel AYERS who was in VA is the "southern" line whose descendants went to NC, SC and on to Franklin and Habersham Co., GA.
** Another note: It is proven that the info of NJ Ayers is in error and all of the Southern Ayers were from VA but some folks still won't make the changes to reflect the proven info. DSPayne
