David Crawford, late of the Parish of St. Peter's in the County of New Kent, was in his lifetime seized in fee simple, for and in one neck of land, lying and being in the Parish of St. Paul's in the County of Hanover, containing about five hundred acres, and so being seized, by his certain poll, bearing the date of May 21, 1691, for the natural love and affection which he bore his daughter, Sarah, did give the said land unto his daughter and the heirs of her body, as by said deed more fully may appear, and the said Sarah entered and by vitue of said deed was seized, and intermarried with one Thomas Poindexter, deceased, and by him had issue, John Poindexter, and has since intermarried with one James Breechin, likewise deceased ..."

    THE CRAWFORD FAMILY IN SCOTLAND
When David I, left England to ascend the throne of Scotland in 1124 he was accompanied by many young nobles and adventurers, among them being Reginald, the youngest son of Alan, fourth Earl of Richmond, who was a daring and enterprising youngster and soon became a favorite and rose rapidly. For his desperate and successful defense of a strategic point on the old Roman Road that passes through what is now the village of Crawford in Kilburnie, in Ayrshire, in 1127, he was rewarded with an earldom and large grants of land in Ayrshire, Fifeshire, and Lanarkshire, under the name "Cruford," which is composed of the Gaelic words CRU, meaning "bloody" and FORD, a "way" or "passage," thus "Bloody Pass."
In the cemetery attached to the old Kilburnie Kirk (which was built by an earl of Crawford in 1205) are many monuments and stones with inscriptions dating back 700 years or more in which the name is spelled CRUFORD, then some time later they have it CRAUFORD and for the past three hundred years or more they have spelled it as we do.---------------------------(Charles Travis Crawford, @ 1923)

Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Poindexter and Sarah Crawford. John Poindexter was her brother and Sarah Brechin was her mother. Thomas had died about 1705-6 when Sarah remarried to Rev. James Brechin. Elizabeth was married to Ruel Shrewsbury by 1735 when they were admin. and administrx for
    William's estate.

pg. 94 Thomas POINDEXTER (III) . . . was the son of George POINDEXTER (II). . . He was born about 1675 at Middle Plantation (later Williamsburg on his grandfather's plantation (Criss Cross) of 850 acres. . . The quit rent rolls for the County of New Kent (later that portion which became Hanover County) for 1702 show
that Thomas POINDEXTER owned 1000 acres.
We glean much interesting and invaluable information concerning Thomas POINDEXTER and his wife Sarah Crafford from a deposition made by his son Thomas POINDEXTER Jr. In the suit of SNEAD Vs. POINDEXTER in 1765. . . In the mentioned suit SNEAD vs. POINDEXTER in 1767 is the following: "John SNEAD & Susanna his wife & Executors of John POINDEXTER & others Hanover Co., Va. 5 Nov 1731 Sarah BRECHIN of St. Paul's Parish Hanover Co., Va. To her son John POINDEXTER for 64 L 10s 400 acres of land & three negroes Sarah, Nan & Bess, etc. . . . Thomas POINDEXTER married Sarah CRAFFORD, dau of David CRAFFORD of New Kent Co., Va. & had issue John POINDEXTER & since intermarried with James BRECHIN. . . Then in Louisa Co., Va. Will Bk. #1, p. 27 of 27 March 1753 we
find the Will of Sarah BRECHIN - mentions nine children. John & Thomas POINDEXTER, William & James BRECHIN, Susanna SNEAD, Elizabeth SHRESBURY, Sarah RICE, Ann RUTHERFORD, Jean IRELAND, Thomas POINDEXTER & son-in-law John SNEAD, executors. . .

    6. THOMAS POINDEXTER was born about 1675 in Middle Plantation, New Kent County, Virginia. (30)(31) Thomas may have been born several years earlier. Middle Plantation became Williamsburg. He died before 1707 in Hanover County, Virginia.(32) (33) Poindexter GEDCOM says Fredericksville Parish, Louisa Co VA There is no definite proof for Thomas being the son of George Poindexter. He is sometimes claimed to be son of George II. Circumstantial evidence exists however. His first three daughters were baptized at St. Peter's 10 years before any children of George Poindexter. His eldest daughter was Susanna. George Poindexter II's heir was George Poindexter which would not be if Thomas was his first born.
The quit rent rolls for New Kent Co in 1702 show that Thomas Poindexter owned 1000 acres. 20 Jul 1738 he purchased 400 acres in Hanover Co, and 400 acres adjoining. 27 Sep 1739 bought 1000 acres in Hanover Co. 16 Aug 1752 patented 400 acres in Louisa Co. (The earlier tracts in Hanover Co may have been in that part which became Louisa Co in 1742.)
He was married to SARAH CRAWFORD (daughter of DAVID CRAWFORD and JANE [CRAWFORD]) about 1695 in New Kent County, Virginia.(34) SARAH CRAWFORD (35) was born on 12 May 1666 in Amherst County, Virginia. (36) She died in 1753 in Louisa County, Virginia. (3) Louisa Co VA Will Book 1, p.27, 27 Mar 1753. Will of Sarah Brechin mentions all nine children including the four by her second husband James Brechin. Son-in-law John Snead is executor. THOMAS POINDEXTER and SARAH CRAWFORD had the following children:
