    >> Built in 1894, the wooden road bridge over the Spey at Broomhill is the second to be built here. The original was built when the railway opened in 1863 to transport timber from local forests to the railway at Broomhill Station. Leaving the Post Office cross the bridge over the River Nethy and turn left. Pass the Butcher and the old railway station. Once you are well out of the village you will pass
Coulnakyle farm on the right. (Some historical information on the railway and Coulnakyle is given in the Coulnakyle-Serendipity walk). The road carries straight on to the River Spey and Broomhill Bridge.

Hullo Mr. Watkins ( or can I call you Hugh?)

I have been following your Lapham Watkins genealogy notes for some
time now and have finally decided to contact you.

Robert Thomas Lapham was my GG. Grand father and according to my
records was born at Bath on 7th April 1828.

Following a special recruiting campaign through England he joined the
78th Highlanders when he was about 18 years old. Whilst in the army he
married Margaret Stewart Cormack in Aberdeen on the 16th March 1858.
His marriage certificate states that he was the son of Robert Thomas
Lapham (Cutler) and Mary Ann Andrews (maiden name) who were both
    deceased at that time

He was discharged from the regiment, holding the rank of Colour
Sergeant, after serving 21 years and continued to live with his family
in Scotland ( Fochabers, Inverallan and Broomhill).

He died on 7th April (the same day and month in which he was born)
1906. He was interred at Nethybridge Churchyard Strathspey on 10th
April with full Military Honours. The Death certificate states that his
father R.T.L was a surgical instrument maker.

I have no other details about his father or mother and this is now my

It appears that my details although differing in some ways from your
has many similarities and I would be interested in any observations you
    may care to make.

The Alexander John as listed above was my G. Grandfather. He was born
in Dover whilst the regiment was serving there but his name first
appears in the Scottish census (along with his brothers Robert, Alfred,
William and his parents) in the 1871 Census and again in the 1881
census where it is shown he was an apprentice plumber lodging in Nairn.

I am a born an bred - Nairnite - so I haven - t moved far from Broomhill
which is just under an hours drive away. As a matter of fact my wife
and I had a look round the cemetery at Nethybridge only last week but
we were unable to identify the grave of my gg. grandfather.

Regarding my computer skills I am afraid they are very limited. I have
only started getting to grips with this - beastie - within the past year.

I am looking for some more information about Lapham. Robert Thomas Lapham, born 1847 married Margaret Stewart Cormack. They had several children, including Alfred James (my family connection) born 1866, he had several brothers, including Walter, William George born 1868, Joseph, Alexander and Robert born 1860. He may have had more than one sister, maybe Margaret Isabella and/or Mary Leslie. Robert Thomas, head of household died in 1906, and his wife died in 1919. they were married at Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen. I would appreciate any help.
