EARLDOM OF ANGUS (SCT) (III) 1187?

Adam, Earl of Angus, son and heir [of Gillbride], witnessed a charter, vp., in 1164, as "son of Earl Gillbride". He is named in a charter, about 1187, as Earl of Angus. He d. before 1198. [Complete Peerage I:145]

The following is a post-em by Curt Hofemann, curt_hofemann AT yahoo.com, which prompted me to look up the CP article (above):

    Angus 3rd Earl of Angus

I bring up something, unfortunately, for which I do not have an answer. I notice you post to Gen-Medieval, so maybe a query there might get a definitive response.

Burke's "Angus" 3rd Earl of Angus & father of Gilchrist, per CP I:145, Watney #10 & SP II:317-8 (per my notes) is named "Adam" (actually, for a Scot name, Angus IS more believable) the brother who dsp 1198 of Gilchrist whereupon Gilchrist inherited the title Earl/Mormaer of Angus.

I'm currently unable to check this out at the library to make sure my old notes are true or misinterpretations, sorry.

Wish I could be of more help.
    Regards,
    Curt

Note: CP certainly agrees with Curt (except that CP doesn't explicitly state that Adam died without issue--it is implied because his brother was his heir), and Burke's does not state Angus's descent, therefore I am changing my pedigree, which had Gilchrist as son of Angus, to Gilchrist as brother & heir of Adam (Angus).
