  • Note: Thomas was one of the early settlers of Dorchester, Ma. receiving land there before 10 Jan 16 34. He became freeman 6 May 1635 at Dorchester and removed to Windsor, CT about 1640. In 1678 , Thomas removed to Westfield, Ma. giving his homestead tat Windsor to his son-in-law, Timoth y Thrall. Briefly, Clan Gunn's ancestral tree is mixed in origin with the earliest known inh abitants of the area, the Picts. Later the Celts, Scots, Teutons, Normans, Norse and others i ntergrated to extend the ancestral tree. Practically without exception, the Highland Clans c hiefly lines claim descent from the Norse Vikings. Clan Gunn is no exception; tracing its beg inning to King Olaf the Black of Norway. The surname Gunn derives from Gun, Gunnar, or Gunn i (depending upon the intepretation of historian) who was a grandson of Sweyn the Pirate of F reswick whose family ruled the earldoms of Orkney and Caithness during the 9th, 10th and 11t h centuries. The modern lineage and Sept families stem from George Gunn, the Crowner of Cait hness, born in the first decade of the 15th century and slain with several of his clansmen a t the Chapel of St. Tears, near Ackergil, in July 1478.
