  • Note: Sir Edward served the office of sheriff of Gloucester in 1542, and knight of the shire in 1554 and 1555. He was one of the commissioners for the repression of religious houses. Ewenney Abbey was granted to him in 1546 as part of the possessions of St Peter, at Gloucester. Burke mentions that during many years he was the ambassador to the Court of Rome. 2

Glamorgan, sheriff 1542 and 1554, (s. Howell Carne, of Cowbridge, co. Glamorgan), principal of Greek Hall, in St. Edward's parish, knighted by the Emperor Charles V., King's orator at Rome in 1530, in the matter of his divorce from Queen Catherine, M.P. Glamorgan, Nov. 1554 - Jan. 1555, and Oct., to Dec., 1555, died at Rome 14 cal. Feb., 1561. (See D.N.B. & Fasti, i.66.) 1519 3
