  • Note:

Sarah Elizabeth Baumgardner whose death occurred at her home three miles north of Neodesha, Monday, February 26, 1923, aged 76 years, and 2 days was born in Summit county, Ohio, February 24th, 1847; was united in marriage to Perry Cave at Springfield [wrong] Indiana Oct 13, 1867. They came to Kansas in the spring of 1872 of 1872, and two years later purchased the farm home three miles north ..on which they have lived for 48 years. Mrs Cave leaves nine children to mourn her loss. They are Mrs Myrtle Thornton and Mrs Martha Hyde of Altoona; Charles D Cave, Amos H Cave and Dicy L Dillion, of Cedarwood, Colo.; David F Cave of Sedgwick, Ks; Frances M Brecko of Pittsburg, Ks; Ben W Cave and George W Cave of Neodesha, Kansas. Mrs Cave was a member of the Congregational church. She used her gentle influence to brighten the pioneer life of Kansas.

Her life was one of simplicity, sincerity and service. She toiled, together with her husband to carve from the wilderness a home for their family. She was never content to be idle and was happiest when giving her willing service to her family and friends. She was a friend and mother in whom one could put their trust, knowing that her sympathy and advice could be relied upon. In her grief over the loss of her husband last June, her fortitude showed that her life had been built not upon sands, but upon the solid Rock that weathers all storms.
Her sudden death takes from the community a noble woman, a mother whom her children loved and whose influence reached out after them as they left the home circle and went out into the world to build for themselves. "Home" was ever the place they liked to return to because it meant mother and her loving care and affection. She was the best loved grandma in the world to her 26 grandchildren. Their great pleasure was an opportunity to visit with her and their holidays were incomplete without a visit with grandma. Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) morning at 1O:3O o'clock at the home, conducted by Rev. G Alfred Brown of the Christian church, and the remains will be laid to rest in the Neodesha cemetery. All of the children are expected to be here for the funeral.

Funeral services for the late Mrs Perry Cave were held last Thursday at 1O am at the family residence 2 1/2 miles north of Neodesha. The services were conducted by Rev G Alfred Brown and music was furnished by Mrs Blaine White, Mrs G C Pitney, Mrs J T Garner, S P Shipley and George Hibler. Pall-bearers were: David Kuntz, Robert Moulton, Robert Mitchell, Jack Bently, Frank Smith and John Cranor. A large concourse of friends gathered to pay their last respects to this highly respected pioneer. Interment was made in the Neodesha cemetery beside the husband who passed away last summer.
