    Andrew was raised and schooled in Salem Township, Columbiana Co., OH. He was later baptized i n 1832 at the Brush Creek Lutheran Church in Westmoreland Co.

    In 1820 Andrew Alman lived in Salem Township, Columbiana Co., OH (page 65) with his wife an d 1 daughter. In 1830 he lived in Salem Township (page 437) with his wife and 1 son under 5 a nd 1 son 5-10.

    With financial help from his father, Andrew bought land in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland C o., PA where he appears as a farmer in the 1830, 1840, and 1850 census. In 1850 his land wa s valued at $6,800; at home were Polly and children George, Absalom, David, and Samuel.

    Andrew moved to Iowa in 1855. He farmed in Section 36 of Jackson Township (Ioka post office ) in Keokuk County where he appears in the 1856 state census. He lived in Keokuk Co. in 186 0 (page 861) and 1870 (page 337). In 1860 his land was valued at $2,600 with $1,000 in person al property; at home were his wife Mary and son Samuel.

    Andrew died on 6 Aug 1879 Keokuk, IA. Last will and testament written 19 Jan 1877 and prove d 6 Oct 1879. To wife Amelia the house and furniture; to son Samuel $5; to sons George and A bsalem all the real estate in Keokuk Co.; to daughter Elizabeth Baum $600 with $500 receipt f rom John Baum; to my daughter Polly Snider $600; to my daughter Catherine Rush with $500 rece ipt from Joseph Rush; to Sarah Harmon $600 with receipt of $500 from John Harmon; to son Andr ew Altman $600. George Altman and Peter Lureshes Toreso (?) executors.
