At age of 20, Ichabod enlisted 1 Dec 1775 in the Revolution. The records in the Pension Offic e in Washington, D.C. state that the length of his service was 13 months, as a private in Cap t. Bostwick's Company, Col. Charles Webb's Regiment, Connecticut. Battles engaged in- none me ntioned. Date of application for pension 16 April 1818; residence at time of application, Low ville, N.Y. Age at time of application 62 years. Claim for pension was allowed. He receive d a pension of $96.00 per year beginning 16 Apr 1818. Ichabod attended the 4 July 1826 Semi-C entennial Celebration in Lowville; at the dinner that evening he signed the register of Revol utionary Veterans as age 70, originally from New Milford, CT.

In 1790 Ichabod lived in Mohawk Township, Montgomery Co., NY (page 50). He lived in Florida , Montgomery Co. in 1794/5 and from there to Fairfield. In 1800 he lived in Herkimer Co., N Y (page 175), with 8 males and 3 females in the household. In 1805 he moved to Harrisburgh, L ewis Co., NY, where he lived until his death.
It is reported that Ichabod Murray was a carpenter and joiner by trade, that in general appea rance he was uncommonly straight and dignified in carriage, tall and slender and of a very jo vial nature.
Ichabod died at age 78 (?) with his obituary giving his birth as 16 Aug 1754. ("Gospel Advoca te," Vol. 11, 1831)
The following is an extract from the probate records in Lowville, Lewis Co. New York:
"To the Surrogate of the County of Lewis, the petition of Joel Murray respectfully sheweth th at Ichabod Murray, my father is dead, that he died on the 16th of July 1831; that he was an i nhabitant of the town of Harrisburg, that at the time of his death he left no widow surviving , and left no will as far as has been discovered or heard,; that in the opinion of your petit ioner the whole of the personal estate left by the said Ichabod Murray will not amount in val ue to more than $34.00. Your petitioner reserves the right and letter of administration on th e said estate, and requests that the said Surrogate would appoint Charles D. Snow, who is a s on-in-law of the deceased, as a proper person to administer the said estate, and your petitio ner will ever pray," etc. Dated July 21, 1831 (Signed) Joel Murray.
Charles D. Snow, Solomon King and Jonathan Ball gave bond for $70 dated July 26, 1831, as exe cutors of the above estate. (Lewis Co. N.Y. Probate Records.)
In a little rural cemetery, now neglected and overgrown, in a field off the highway, lie th e remains of Ichabod Murray and his wife. Juba, their son is also buried here. A slab erecte d by the D.A.R. inscribed "Ichabod Murray, died July 16, 1831, aged 76-A Soldier of the Revol ution" stands at the head of his grave. No marker, other than a large rock marks the grave o f Lois, his wife. This cemetery is between the village of Lowville and the smaller village o f Harrisburg.
