    David Lorentz Spielmann came to the Colonies during the Revolutionary War as a Hessian soldie r, a mercinary for the British. He was captured at Yorktown and imprisoned at Fredericktown , MD. David, along with about 474 other prisoners, were promised bounty land if he switched s ides to fight with the Colonists, which he did. He was given 50 acres in Allegany Co., MD.

    Added note: David Lorentz Spielmann, was listed among the members of the Von Bose regiment wh ich fought for the British during the Revolutionary War and was among the troops that Cornwal lis surrendered on October 19, 1781 after the defeat at Yorktown. Upon their capture, member s of the Hessian units were sent to Frederick, Maryland, reaching there on 10 November 1781 . In May 1783, the Von Bose regiment returned to New York, however some remained in the Fred erick Co. area and married local girls. In fact, David Lorentz Spielmann was married in Fred erick to Elisabeth Kirchbaum on 26 Oct 1784. According to the information, David Lorenz Spie lmann was born 1753/4. He apparently entered the "military" from Helmarshausen, Germany as h e is listed as being from the Hofgeismar Kaserne in Helmarshausen.

However, it appers he survived to surre nder at Yorktown and imprisoned in Frederick, MD, as his full identical name appears there i n his 1784 marriage to Elizabeth Krichbaum.]

    David Lorenz Spielmann married Elisabeth Krichbaum in Oct 1784 in Frederick, MD. They moved t o the Cumberland, Allegany Co, MD sometime in the mid-1790s. They had 9 children. David Loren z Spielmann appears to have been a member of the von Bose Regiment from Hesse who fought on t he British side during the Rev War and was surrendered at Yorktown by Cornwallis. The regimen t was sent to Frederick, Maryland where they were held as prisoners of war until the Treaty o f Paris ended the Rev War in 1783.

    In 1790 Laurance Spealman lived in Frederick Co., MD (page 72) (11200) with 1 son and 1 daugh ter. In 1800 David Speelman lived in Buckeye District No. 1, Frederick Co., MD (page 141) (00 101-11110) with 1 son and 3 daughters. In 1810 he was the Lauc. Spealman who lived in 5th Dis trict, Allegany Co., MD (page 38) (23101-00000). In 1820 Laurence Spealman District 6, Allega ny Co. with his wife, 5 sons, and 1 daughter. In 1830 David Speelman lived in Alleghany Co. w ith his wife, 1 son, and 2 daughters.
