The family at first lived at Plymouth and then moved to CT. In a deed dated 18 Jan 1724 Jame s Johnson of Lebanon, CT bought 74 acres of land in Middletown (Chatham), CT from George Stil man of Weathersfield, CT. In Sept 1726 James and his wife Anne deeded to her brother John Coo ke all their right to the estate of Caleb Cooke, a deceased brother. On 22 Nov 1726 James bou ght 343 acres in Middletown from William Whitmore of Middletown. In a "love & affection" dee d dated 3 Nov 1741 James of Middletown gave 39 acres in Middletown to his son John Johnson.
The will of James Johnson of Middletown, CT, dated 14 Mar 1743, and proved 4 Oct 1743, name s wife Ann Johnson, sons James, Caleb and Joseph Johnson, daughters Ann Johnson and Elizabet h Johnson, daughter-in-law Mercy Johnson, widow and relict of John Johnson, deceased. Wife An n and son James Johnson were named executors. Letters of guardianship dated 4 Oct 1743 certif ied that Caleb Johnson age 19 years, Anne Johnson age 17 years and Elizabeth Johnson 13 years , children of James Johnson, deceased, chose their brother James Johnson as Guardian.
