    Son Stephen Turner had referred to his father as William, which may have been his middle name . In the 1820 KY census there are 15 William Turners with none in Lincoln Co.

    Family tradition relates that Jabez lived on a riverboat.

    A court order for some of Gottlieb Schmick`s property says "for the orphans of Jabas & Bets y Turner" and also the Schmick family to divide up $1,469.00.

    Whereas Polly Turner, Susan Turner, Stephen Turner and Jabez Turner Heirs at law an d children of Jabez Turner deceased by John S. Higgins their guardian, filed their petition i n the Lincoln Circuit Court against Susanna McKinney late Susan Turner & Alexander McKinney h er husband, Nancy Colvin late Nancy Turner & Joseph Colvin her husband, Martha Colvin late Ma rtha Turner & Elijah Colvin her husband, John Turner, Paschal Turner, Polly Turner and Edmon d Turner children and heirs at law of Stephen Turner deceased, setting forth among other thin gs that the said Stephen Turner died intestate, that he was seized and possessed of two tract s of land lying in Lincoln County, the one containing about 114 acres, the other containing a bout sixty-three acres, and among other things the petitioners prayed that the said tracts o f land should be sold and the proceeds thereof divided among the heirs of the said Stephen Tu rner deceased. ---- And such proceedings were had in said suit that at the September term o f the Lincoln Circuit Court in the year of 1826 a decree was pronounced directing the sale o f the tracts of land mentioned in the petition, and for the purpose of effectuating said sal e Thomas Helm and John S. Higgins were appointed commissioners. ---- That said Helm and Higgi ns in pursuance to the said decretal order exposed said tract of land to sale, which containe d by actual survey sixty-three acres and nineteen poles and Thomas Pope being the highest bid der became the purchaser thereof at the price of five hundred and fifty-four dollars forty-se ven and a half cents, which sale was ratified and confirmed by the decretal order of the Linc oln Circuit Ct all of which matters and things will more fully and at large appear by referri ng to said petition, decrees, proceedings, etc. now of record in the clerk’s office of the Li ncoln Circuit Court which for greater certainty are here referred to. ---- And whereas at th e February term of the Lincoln Circuit Court in the year 1831 it was among other things decre ed and ordered that Thomas Helm and John S. Higgins be appointed commissioners on the part o f the heirs of the said Stephen Turner deceased for the purpose of conveying to the said Thom as Pope the said tract of land purchased by him. ---- Now in pursuance to the said last menti oned decretal and order this indenture of bargain sale and conveyance made and entered into b y and between Polly Turner, Susan Turner, Stephen Turner and Jabez Turner heirs of Jabez Turn er deceased who was one of the heirs and children at law of Stephen Turner deceased and Susan na McKinney and Alexander McKinney her husband, Nancy Colvin and Joseph Colvin her husband, M artha Colvin and Elijah Colvin her husband, John Turner, Paschal Turner, Polly Turner and Edm ond Turner children and heirs at law of Stephen Turner deceased by the said Thomas Helm and J ohn S. Higgins commissioners aforesaid parties of the first part and Thomas Pope of Lincoln C ounty party of the second part. Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and i n consideration of the sum of five hundred and fifty-four dollars and forty-seven cents pai d by the said Thomas Pope the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, they the parties of th e first part by the said Thomas Helm and John S. Higgins commissioners aforesaid, have and d o by these presents do grant bargain sell a lien enfeaff (?) and convey unto said Thomas Pop e and to his heirs and assigns forever the following tract of land lying in Lincoln County o n Dicks River and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a rock (?) lying on the side o f the big road running thence south 89 and a half East 109 poles to a large (?) black walnu t and hickory on the bank of the river, thence north 52 east 24 poles to a black oak, thenc e north (?) west 104 poles to a beech thence north 37 and a half east to a (?) sugar and dogw ood, thence north 52 west 21 poles to a large white oak, thence south 47 west 108 poles to a n elm thence south 8 degrees west 52 poles to the beginning containing sixty three acres on e rood and nineteen poles by survey. To have and to hold the said tract of land as above de scribed with all and singular that appertains thereunto belonging or in any wise appertainin g to the said Thomas Pope and his heirs and assigns forever. ---- And the said parties of th e first part by the said Thomas Helm and John S. Higgins commissioners as aforesaid do by the se presents covenant grant and agree to and with the said Thomas Pope and his heirs and assig ns that they the parties of the first part will warrant and forever defend the title to the a bove described tract of land against all manner of claims whatever. In testimony whereof th e parties of the first part by the said Thomas Helm and John S. Higgins commissioners as afor esaid have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seal this 24th day of May in th e year 1831.
