Text: Road directions: From Boonville, Missouri follow Route #98 about ten miles east to Overton, Missouri; as road curves to north, at edge of Overton, take a sharp right turn to south and follow gravel road up over a hill; about one mile; cemetery on right (west) side of road, near a house.
History: The land for the burial was given by Mr. Taylor and is maintained by the Clayton Cemetery Association.  The officers of which are: President, Mr. Eugene Korte; Vice President, Mr. Albert Waibel; Board Members, Mr. Oscar Mochel and Mr. Murrell McGinnis; and Secretary Treasurer, Mrs. Arch L. Chrisman.
The cemetery was recorded in 1977 by a couple wishing to remain anonymous, and members of the Cooper County Historical Cemeteries Association.  It is updated through December 1984.  Additions to and some corrections on Clayton Cemetery supplied by Mrs. Arch L. Chrisman, secretary treasurer, obtained from old record books.  Due to poor condition of records, there may be from some errors.  Some burials are from an original list submitted by an unknown person probably about 1967.  There are no markers to be found for those records.  Additions from later lists come from obituaries, county histories and others sources.
On 20 Jun 1961, the cemetery was also canvassed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints of Jefferson city.  The members of recorded this cemetery were Mrs. Katharine Larson and Mrs. Fannie Edgell.  Additions from this source if different from the primary source are given in blue.
