    7. JOHN4 WARREN (JOHN3, JOHN2, ROBERT1) was born Abt. Aug 01, 1585 i n England, and died Dec 13, 1667 in Watertown, Middlesex Co., MA.52. H e married MARGARET BAYLY, daughter of WILLIAM BAYLY and ANN.

    Notes for JOHN WARREN:
    From "Bullard and Allied Families"
He had a homestead and seven other lots, aggregating 188 acres. John W arren, though a member of the Puritan church, was in sympathy with th e Quakers, and was the subject of much criticism and abuse by certai n church officials. He retained his membership in the church, however , and died, at peace with its doctrines, December 13, 1667, aged 82 ye ars. His wife Margaret (surname unknown), died November 6, 1662. His w ill dated November 30, 1667, was proved December 17 of that year..."

Per SAVAGE, VOL 4 DICT. FIRST SETTLERS OF New England JOHN, Watertown , came probably in 1630, in the fleet with Sir Richard Saltonstall, th en aged about 45, and having wife and children (four certainly are nam ed in his will, and of them only Elizabeth could be born here). Ther e may have been others, but no record of birth or
death is found. He was admitted freeman 18 May 1631, chosen selectma n 1636-40. Late in life he fell under the censure of the laws, unwise ly levelled at dissenting from the religious course of the major par t of the inhabitants and Bond informs us of proceedings against him i n 1651, 1654, and 1661; but he died in peace, 13 December 1667, aged 8 2. His wife Margaret died 6 November 1662. She was probably the moth er of all his children John, born 1622; Mary; and Daniel, born 1628 ; beside Elizabeth who married about 1654, James Knapp. Mary marrie d 30 Oct. 1642, John Bigelow.

    The following line of Warren

WARREN which appears very early in Watertown, Massachusetts, has a bra nch in Grafton, which is now represented by a prominent family in West brook, Maine.

May 18, 1631, an d was selectman from 1636 to 1640. In 1635 he and Abraham Browne wer e appointed to lay out all highways, and to see that they were repaire d. His homestall lot in 1672 contained twelve acres. He also owned sev en other lots, amounting to one hundred and seventy-six acres. Children of John Warren were : John, Sarah, Samuel, Thomas, David, Ben jamin, Abigail and William.

(IV) Captain Samuel, second son of John (3) and Abigail (Hastings) War ren, was born March 18, 1704, and died January 26, 1775. Samuel Warre n removed from Weston to Grafton in 1730, as is shown by the followin g extract "from the church record : "S. He was one of t he original members of the First Church of Grafton, and his daughter S arah was the first white child baptized there. Tradition says he bough t his land of the Indians. He built his first house of logs, some dist ance south of the house now standing built by his grandson John.
