The 1870 Illinois Census lists Perina Price (age 16) as living in Augusta Township in the household of Samuel W Mickle (age 42), his wife, Eloise (age 32), and their son, James (age 13). (Pronounced as in "pickle" and the handwriting is not clear for the spelling of the wife's name. "Elvesse?" "Elresse?" "El??s??" ?)
In 1884, Perina, her husband Andrew and their two children, Bertha and Clarence, moved from Illinois to Kansas in a covered wagon as part of a wagon train. Their twins, Georgia and Gertrude, were born in a "dugout" sod house in Kansas, with 8 inches of water on the floor at the time.

The federal Bureau of the Census conducted a census of the state in 1890. However, the original schedules were damaged by a fire in Washington, D.C., in 1921, and most were subsequently destroyed. None of the Kansas census survives.
