At his father's death in 1682, Benjamin Mendenhall was left the sum of 40 pounds "lawful money of England" to be paid to him by his elder brother, John," at such time as the "said premises before given shall come to be in his own possession." (Benjamin was only 18 at the time, so was not left land in his father's will, as were his older brothers).
Benjamin Mendenhall left England and immigrated to America with his brother, John, and younger sister, Mary Mendenhall, arriving in Philadelphia, PA in the fall of 1682.
In PA, Benjamin Mendenhall met and married Ann Pennel (daughter of Robert Pennell of Middletown, PA) in the Chester Co., PA "Friends" (Quaker)meeting house on Feb. 2 or 17, 1689. They settled in Concord, PA, where Benjamin became a member of the Provincial Assembly, held important trusts, and developed a career as an influential member of the community. Benjamin and Ann P. Mendenhall had 9 children: Benjamin (jr.), Joseph, Moses, Hannah, Samuel, Rebecca, Ann, Nathan, and Robert Mendenhall (all born btwn. abt. 1690 to abt. 1710 in PA).
