Eben Weston paid an interesting tribute to Nathaniel and his wife: "Mr Burrill was a man of fine manners with a kind of easy formality that entitled him to the appellation of a gentleman of the old school. And in the judgment of a boy from twelve to fifteen years olld, which was my age when I knew them, Mrs. Burrill was as near being a perfect lady as any woman I ever saw. With a pleasant voice and graceful manner, she knew how to say the right thing in the right way at the right time."- p186/7.
