    While still a young man John Cushing moved to Norwich, Norfolk, England. Both John and his wife Elizabeth Dennington were silk weavers. They moved to New York in 1841, and subsequently in 1842 to homestead in Arthur Township, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada with their son, William Cushing. Elizabeth died July 1883 in Arthur Township, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. He was a Methodist, and a Liberal.
