"Hugh was of full age when he succeeded his brother. He was engaged in the King's service in Scotland in 1268. In 1274 he made an agreement with the Prior of Bruton as to the suit at the Prior's Court. He was summoned to serve in person against Llewelyn of Wales in 1277 and 1282. In 1280 he claimed Tintenhull against the Prior of Montacute, but failed."
