Edmund came to America in 1635, on the "Abigail", RIchard Hackwell, Master, with wife Elizabeth, settling in Saugus, Massachusetts from where he moved to Sandwich, Plymouth Colony, of which John Carver, William Bradford and he were the founders; in 1640 he was chosen assistant Govenor to William Bradford, which office he held for seven successive terms; in 1641 he was a member of the council of war; in 1646 a deputy to the general court.
