"Historic Tales of Talladega" by E. Grace Jemison, 1959, "Many prominent citizens of Talladega became so depressed over the hopelessness of conditions in Alabama during the Reconstruction period, that hundreds of them emigrated to Texas."
!NOTES: Tale by Mr. Gunter (age 84 on 30 Oct 1970) to Midred Dye. "Mr. Gunter
grew up around Ironaton; he worked at the forge. When he was 5 or
7 years old his older brother burned his feet badley. He was taken
to Granny Kennedy to get the "fire talked out of his feet"; she did
it. Mr. G. said "She was an old old woman and I was afraid of her!"
This was about 1882. . He identified her as the grandmother of Jack
Kennedy. . Jack's family lived in the mountains back of Iranaton.
Both Bill Dye and Mr. Gunter identified Jack as part of the George
W. Kennedy family?????" (In a letter written by James H. Kennedy
from Richmond, VA, during the Civil War, he mentions, "Tell Uncle
Jack and Pap to answer my letter soon.")
