  • Note: Hub dug the portion of the basement of his house on Tuttle Avenue the machines could not do, then drove the point for the water well. His house was moved on skids from Ketcham Avenue, Eastport, north through Ronald Raynor's potato field on the east side of the cemetery, westword in the vacant area north of the Eastport Cemetery toward Tuttle Avenue, then south behind Sweezy's and Pomasanoff's houses to its present location on Tuttle Avenue. He was caretaker for Mr. Spear, a N.Y. lawyer whose estate was in Remsenburg. Hub was a member of the Eastport Volunteer Fire Department and later was an agent who sold fire engines in the northeaster part of the country. He also worked as Southampton Township's tax assessor. He was in the U.S. Army and was part of the occupation forces in Germany just after the war was over. Toward the end of his life Hub got cancer and became an evangelical Christian and an avid Bible reader. He was hard of hearing, a problem not shared by his siblings.
