Jacob came to America with his family from the Palatinate, Germany. They a rrived by way Cowes on the ship "Harle", Ralph Harle, Master from Rotterda m. They arrived September 1, 1736 and were living in the vicinity of the H eidelberg Church in 1739 when church services were held in his home. Mo st records drop the "John" after their arrival in America. The family sett led in what was called Heidelberg Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvani a, later called Washington Twp., Lehigh Co. Heidelberg township was organi zed in 1752. Originally Northumberland Co. was made up of most of the nort heastern part of the state of Pennsylvania. When the original Heidelberg T ownship was formed, Conrad Bloss was appointed constable. Rupp's "Thirty Thousand Names..." has the following entry: "September 1, 1 736. Palatines imported in the ship Harle, of London, Ralph Harle, Maste r, from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. One hundred and fifty-six men, sixty-f ive women, one hundred and sixty-seven boys and girls - in all 388." In t he list is "Joh. Jacob Daubenspeck".
Strassburger's "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" has 2 ship lists for the Har le. List A shows "Jacob Daubenspeck," age 22. List C lists "Johan Jacob Da ubenspeck." It would appear that the signature on List C is Johan's own ha ndwriting. "Palatine Origins" (which also lists Jacob as coming to America on the Har le) lists the following information about Johann Jacob Daubenspeck (as we ll as the information under his father, Joh. Georg Daubenspeck): From t he records of the Egypt Reformed KB (Kirchenbuch), Lehigh Co., Pennsylvani a: Jacob Daubenspeck and wife Juliana had a daughter: Anna Magdalena, b. 16 Feb. 1753. Sponsors: Conrad Bloss and wife Anna Magdalena. (These recor ds are available in Pennsylvania Archives, Sixth Series, Vol. 6). Anoth er daughter, Maria Barbara Daubenspeck, is listed in the Tohickon Reform ed KB, Bedminster, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. Maria was confirmed Easter 17 57 in Heidelberg Twp., Bucks Co., Pennsylvania.
Heidelberg Church services were held as Union Services in the home of Jac ob Daubenspeck for five years before the first Heidelberg log church was b uilt in 1744. A school was built at the same time. The church was made a U nion Church in 1745. The church and school were burned and a new church a nd school were built by 60 families in 1756 and dedicated in 1757. Among t he names of the 60 families were Conrad Bloss, his oldest son, George bo rn 1744, Peter Seidel and Jacob Daubenspeck. Jacob obtained a warra nt on 68 acres of land in Heidelberg Twp., May 14, 1765. He also appea rs on the tax list of 1762 with Conrad Bloss and Melchert Seidel. "
