Mrs. Agatha Pierce, Alta, Dies Here Friday Last Rites Held Tuesday Afternoon at Princeville Methodist Church Mrs. Agatha Ann Pierce, 77, an old and highly respected citizen of Alta, Illinois, passed away Friday evening, 1 December 1939 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D.W. Carr on Clarke Avenue following an illness of about a week?s duration. Funeral services for Mrs. Pierce were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o?clock at the Princeville Methodist church, in charge of Reverend J.C. Cardigan, pastor of the Stark Congregational church, assisted by Reverend A.M. Murdock, pastor of the Princeville Methodist church, and Reverend Joe H. Smith, pastor of the Princeville Presbyterian church. Obituary Agatha Ann Harrison, daughter of Robert W. and Eleanor Lawrence Harrison was born 29 May 1862, near Princeville, Illinois and passed away 1 December 1939 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillian E. Carr in Princeville, Illinois as the age of 77 years, 6 months and 2 days. Mrs. Pierce spent 60 years of her life in central Illinois. 50 years of this time in Peoria county. The remainder of her life was spent in Missouri. She was married 7 July 1878 to Theodore S. Pierce, who passed away in 1924. To this union 12 children were born, 10 surviving. Seven sons, Fred H. and Howard W. of Princeville, Illinois, Hanford T. of Galesburg, Illinois, Robert H. of Peoria, Illinois, Oliver V. and Freemont of Galva, Illinois and Homer L. of Alta, Illinois and three daughters, Mrs. Lillie E. Carr of Princeville, Illinois, Mrs. Mable A. Alldredge of Peoria, Illinois and Mrs. Elmer A. Peterson of Galva, Illinois. One son Paul died in infancy and one daughter, Millie E. Hammel, also preceded her in death, leaving an infant daughter who was reared by her grandmother with the same loving care as that of her own children. Also surviving are 33 other grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Hanford and Frank Harrison of Princeville and four sisters, Mrs. Eunice J. Smith of Princeville, Illinois, Mrs. James LeMay of Colorado, Mrs. A.B. Kneer of Largra, Illinois and Mrs. Bertha L. Kneer of Williamsfield, Illinois. After leaving Illinois and making her home in Hopkins, Missouri, Mrs. Pierce affiliated with the Christian Alliance church there. Returning to Illinois she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church in Alta and was very active in both churches, being president of the Ladies Aid society at Alta for several years. She was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her true Christian character, sunny disposition, patience, courage and kindness gained for her many friends, who with many distant relatives join the family in mourning her passing.
