The History of Swanzey, page 64 lists James and his brother William (2nd) as James was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He served with his brothers, and being of age for service in the Revolution. It states that the list of men, either were born in Swanzey or came with their parents as very young men. It is known from the same source that his father came Oct. 10, 1737. So, the three eldest sons were truly citizens of Swanzey, before the town even took the name.
Jame's military service is listed on page 123 of the Miltary Affairs of Swanzey/History of Swanzey, film #1033865/cof
James served 12 days to Cambridge, 1775, and 12 days at Otter Creek, 1777 for which he was paid 2-12-6. He was the father of two young children, when he served his military duties.
He received his one hundred acres of land in Swanzey, in the fourth division of lots,(#211). This was found in the History of Swanzey, film 0015368
