    !MILITARY-BIRTH-MOTHER-DEATH-MARRIAGE: Civil War Service Record/Pension File #79.845; ; 9th Regiment Vermont Volunteers; ; National Archives; NOTE: Original record was viewed, Rufus enlisted on 21 Jun 1862 to serve 3 years, mustered as a private on 9 Jul 1862, died in the Regimental Hospital in Winchester, Va. of dysentery. Birth dates of all children except John come from a statement in the Civil War Pension file. John was not listed as a dependent in that file. Civil War Service Record includes the following information: Age 40 years; Height 5 ft 7 1/2 in.; complexion light; hair brown; Eyes blue; Birthplace listed. Occupation given as laborer. Died at Camp Sigel in Regimental Hospital, Winchester, VA. From BRIDGEWATER AND THE CIVIL WAR - In July 1862 the town held a meeting to see about raising volunteers. Rufus must have signed up as a result of this meeting.

Tucker and family. $1.60 (He is listed in the poor house in Royalton but it appears that the town of Bridgewater actually paid the bills). In the individual expenses for the Overseer of the Poor, he indicates expenses for personal services June 6, 1860 1-2 days to Tuckers, June 11 making complaint against Tucker.
