Birth, death, marriage, children, siblings and parents all from obituary. Born in Herkimer Co., New York the family moved north to Gouvenour, St. Lawrence Co. in 1825. Harriet's obiturary tells us that she was the eldest child in this family. In March 1844, at the age of twenty she became the wife of Cyrus S. Grimes. One year after their marriage the came by wagon route to Lake County, Illinois.
Four years later, (1848) the moved to Rockville township and purchased a farm adjoining Rock Creek, where she lived for the next fifty seven years. According to the Folklore & HIstory of Rockville Twp. Harriet was an herb grower, and gather, who knew a lot about medicine. She must have been a great asset to the early pioneer families of the district.
After Cyrus died, she moved in with her daughter, Althea Robinson. At the time of her death, she was survived by one daughter, Althea, and sons, George C. of Arizona, Charles E. of Lacombe, AB, and Frank of Gary, Indiana; also twenty
grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Her sister Weltha Bromley of Manito, Ill., and brother Leonard Farmer of Oregon were her only surviving siblings, of a family of twelve children. Her obituary also mentions that she raised three orphan children to adulthood.

Marriage: Harriet and Cyrus's marriage was found recorded in several different area's. 1. NEHG Register, Volume 81, July 1927, New England Historic Genealogical Society (on CD Rom) page 274, Rev. Abner Wood's Record of Marriages and Funerals. The witness was recorded as a Farmer, but the first name is illegible.
Also found two written notices of same information in The Flower Memorial Library, Watertown, NY, Farmer File in the Farmer file in the Gouveneur NY Historical Society, Farmer file/copies of both on file.
On the same page, two entries above Cyrus's and Harriet's marriage is written a Francis Farmer to Loisa Hamer, Halesborough, December 25, 11842, Reuben Betts, witness. It is believed that at this time Francis may have been a brother to Harriet or cousin, but to date the connection is not verified.
Harriet's death certificate #8350, Reg. #B-398, death date of March 19, 1915. The cause of her death was Bronchial Pneumonia, duration one week, complicated by senility. She died at 6 am.
