Obit San Antonio Express-News (TX) 4 Nov 2011:
?Mary Norene Mayfield born December 25, 1942 passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 after a 22 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. A self proclaimed Air Force brat, she was born in California, lived in Japan in her youth and finally settled in San Antonio. Upon graduation from Harlandale High School she began her 30 plus year career at USAA. She obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southwest Texas State University working full time and going to night school while being a full time mother. She was an accomplished public speaker, speaking many engagements around the country with the International Toastmistress Club. She was a huge sports fan, her Cowboys being #1 and her Spurs being #2. She attended many Cowboy games & hosted many Super bowl and Bunco parties at home. She was the consummate professional woman, always dressed for success and a true leader. Above all she was a great Mom setting an example for her son, going to church, teaching Sunday school and making many friends along the way. She never complained one time about her health. She was diagnosed with Melanoma Cancer in 1979 and she beat that disease. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1989. She fought the disease head on dealing with each setback as they came. She was the most courageous person I have ever known. I cherish the lessons you have taught me. Humanity, courage, class, faith and love. I will forever miss you. Love, Scooter Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A 12:00 p.m. Chapel Service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Interment to follow in Mission Burial Park North.
