!GENEALOGY-BIRTH-DEATH-SPOUSE-MARRIAGE-BIOGRAPHY: Marjorie Ann Martin Souder, Certified Genealogical Record Searcher, Rt 3, Box 21 Pekin, Indiana, 47165, PETER MARTIN AND DESCENDANTS, 1989, republished in 1995 by Higginson Books, p. 351; Mary "Polly" Martin was the youngest child of Peter Martin. She married John E. Martin the posthumous son of John and Sarah (Jeffries) Martin. The John Martin who married Sarah Jeffries was the son of Peter Martin's half brother Joseph. That makes John E. and Polly half-first counsins, once removed, as well as husband and wife. Polly died at age 25 and four years later John E. married his half-second cousin Patsey Martin, daughter of Moses Martin, third child of Peter Martin. See Patsey for the list of thier children. John E. Martin's third wife was malinda Pound McCoy but they had no children. To mix things up further, John and Polly's son Abner married a daughter of Malinda by her first marriage. John E. Martin lived in the Livonia area of Washington County and for some time it was thought that these Martins were not related to those who settled around Martinsburh but the research by B.C. Holtzclaw [B. C. Holtzclaw, ANCESTRY AND DESCENDANTS OF THE NASSAU-SIEGEN IMMIGRANTS TO VIRGINIA 1714-1750 (Harrisonburg, VA: Memorial Foundation of the Germanna Colonies in Virginia, Inc. 1964)] ties them together. Tracing Martin is difficult enough, but when they start marrying Martins, it can be a reach headache. Teachers that I know about in this family include Richard Charles Day, Susan Zink Katt, Clara Standish Morris, and Richard Trueblood. I had fifty-two entires in this family until Richard Day contributed his research on this branch of the tree to put Mary's family over the three hundred mark. Aurelia Zink Trueblood, Clara Standish Morris, Iva Terrell Zink, Laurel Purlee and Marvin marhsall provided current data on their families."
