    Rev. James Carrington was Chancellor of the Diocese of Exeter up to 1773. His will was proved 29 July 1794. His wife, Sarah, died before him; her will is dated 7 February 1786. They were buried together with one of their sons in Upton Hellions Church, near Crediton, Devon.

    also of his son G W Carrington
    who departed this life
    May 20th 1801 aged 53 years
    after a painful illness, which he bore
    with Christian fortitude
    a dutiful son and affectionate husband
