    REASONS TO expect GARTAN pARISH IS our USA RUSSELL place of origin in Ireland:
    jean scribner, sister of wife of your compiler Warren Forsythe, sept 2002
    visited 'Churc Hill' town (written on town sign in that unusual spelling)
    in County Donegal about 7 miles NW of Letterkenney town.
    Firstly, there are many Russells listed on the Church of Ireland in center of
    town. An elderly man said Russells had been of that town long before his time.
    Secondly, Russell families were said to be recorded either church of Ireland,
    or else Presyterian church. Thirdly, the spelling 'Churc Hill' on the town sign
    fits in with John Russells 1904 obituary in Stevens Pt Wis, listing his place
    of origin in County Donegal, Ireland as "Churchill". Therefore the descrepancy
    between the
    obituary, and the modern spelling on map "Church Hill" is minimized;

    postcard sept 2002 FROM jEAN SCRIBNER, sister of wife of warren forsythe, your
    compiler here. she found grave of a charles russell born 1823 or 1824 in gartan
    parish, near church hill, county donegal ireland, and russells there were said
    to be presyterians or church of ireland.
    HOWEVER THERE IS NO KNOWN NECESSARY FAMILY CONNECTION TO THE RUSSELL FAMILY
    --WHO IS JEAN'S GREAT GRANDMOTHER, except that her great great grandfather's
    obituary in 1904 in Wis mentions county donegal and the place "churchill";

    Mr. Forsythe:

    I found some information on the family of James Russell b. 12 April 1826.
    On the Ancestry.com page.
    Do you happen to have any more information on the Russell family? I am
    a "direct descendant" of these Russell's and have only gone as far back
    as 1785. (The suspected birth year of John Russell and wife Mary McNutt
    in Church Hill, Ireland) Not 100% sure of this record.

    Who are the Scribner families? Are they blood relation to the John Russell
    families, or did they marry into the 'clan'?

    Any information at all would be very much appreciated!
    Allow me to introduce myself. Shawn William Russell of Plainfield.

    Good evening
    Shawn W. Russell

    She says Almond Hist Soc note from R.Dorscheid states james and john russell
    came to almond in 1855 and 1856; they were brothers. they lived most likely
    on the Tom Russell farm;
    "We believe james is listed incorrectly in the 1850 census of DE, Newcastle
    Co., Christiana Hundred, as "John", age 22. He is listed with John age 25
    Russell, his wife Ann age 25 and John age 3." and John McCullum, 55, surely
    the father of Ann. Sandy says John age 3 is not listed in the 1860 census
    when we find James b. 1826 and john b. 1822 listed side by side in 1860
    census Almond , Portage co WI;
    Second marriage:
    Jane reportedly orphan that james knew in Ireland, also on DE census age 12
    living down the street from our Russell family. Reportedly James returned to
    DE to marry her AND bring her bACK in wagon to Wis;
