Note: "Elida - Shirley M. McOwen, 79, of New Carlisle, formerly of Elida, die d at 7:40 p.m. July 24, 2009, at Dayview Care Center. She was born Marc h 28, 1930, in Detroit to Lee A. and Ethel L. Walters Lutes, who preced ed her in death. On Sept. 30, 1949, he married Gordon E. McOwen, who di ed March 22, 2008. Mrs. McOwen was a member of Sugar Creek Church of th e Brethren since 1958, where she was very active and served as a deacon ess for several years. She retired as a preschool teacher from Northsid e Child Care after 16 years and had been an audit clerk at Sears. She l oved books, sewing and made and collected dolls. Survivors include four c hildren, twins Gordon Ray (Amy) McOwen, of Amarillo, Texas, and Barbara K ay (Jim) Cain, of Troy, Robert (Rose) McOwen, of Beaverdam and Janet (T ony) White, of New Carlisle; a brother, Tom (Judy) Lutes, of Sarasota, F la.; a sister, Patricia Singleton, of Lima; a sister-in-law, Judy Lutes , of Brighton, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Amy, Jason, Jennifer, Rachel ( Curtis), Nicole (Brian), Brian, Aaron (Christina), Holly and Sarah; and n ine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, No rma Shellenbarger, Jean Foltz and Dixie Doty; and a brother, Karl Lutes . Memorial services will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sugar Creek Church o f the Brethren. Pastor Martin Moyer will officiate. Memorial contributi ons may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association or Odyssey Health Care, 3 085 Woodman Drive, Dayton, OH 45420."

The ceremony will b e performed at 7:30 p.m. by teh Rev. e. J. Penhorwood, in the South Sid e Church of Christ." "Miss Shirley Lutes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. lee Lutes, 914 Bellefonta ine-av, was married to Gordon McOwen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John McOwen, R oute 3, Columbus, Grove, Friday evening. The open ceremony was perform ed at 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. E. J. Penhorwood in the South Side Church o f Christ. Mrs. John Hogan was organist, and her selections were "Ave M aria," and "Liebestraum" while Mrs. Jack Cusick sang "Because" and "I L ove You Truly", preceding the ceremony. For her wedding the bride sele cted a blue crepe street length frock with gray feather trimmed hat and a ccessories, and corsage of gardenias. She was escorted to the railing b y her father, who gave her in marriage. Miss Joe Lou Coon, the maid of h onor, had a gray brown rock with matching accessories and corsage of fa ll flowers, and rhinestone necklace, gift of the bride. The best man w as Willard Mcowen, and ushers were Kenneth Mcowen, both brothers of the b ridegroom and Donald Shellenbarger. The bride's mother was dresed in b lack, and the bridegroom's mother had a pink printed frock. Their cors ages were pompons. Approximately 100 guests were invited to the recept ion in the Lutes home where the traditional tiered wedding cake encircl ed with flowers was used at the buffet table. After a short trip the c ouple will be at home at 216 E. Eureka-st. The bride is in the auditin g department at the Sear Roebuck store and the bridegroom is with Bursl ey and Co., Inc." Mrs. McOwen is the former Shir ley Lutes. She is employed as a teacher's aid at Northside Mennonite S chool and her husband is employed at Scot Lad Foods." They are the parents of t wo sons, Gordon (Amy) McOwen Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, and Robert (Rose) M cOwen of Beaverdam; and two daughters Barbara (Jim) Kain of Troy and Ja net (Tony) White of New Carlisle. They have nine grandchildren and thre e great-grandchildren. McOwen is retired from Scot Lad Foods. His wif e is retired from North Side Child Care."
