OBITUARY: Raymond J. Stidham, 94, of W. Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly of Bridgeton and Millville, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. He had lived in Florida since 1992. Born in Buena, he grew up there. He joined the Army prior to WWII and served five years as a corporal. He participated in the Central and Western Pacific theaters and was the recipient of the Combat Infantrymen's Badge. He had worked as a supervisor of Quality Control for Owens Illinois Corp. of Bridgeton before and after the war for a total of 45 years service. He was a member of the GBBA union. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Millville. He will be remembered as a devoted family man and a serious collector of stamps, baseball cards and miniature cars. He is survived by his wife, Helen M. (Garrison) Stidham of W. Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons, Frank Shafer of W. Palm Beach, Fla., and Daniel Shafer and wife, Dorian of Toms River; two daughters, Jeanette Shafer of Vero Beach, Fla., and Stella Robertson and husband, Bruce of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a nephew and niece, Ronald Downs and Donna Wood, both of Bridgeton; and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Myrtle; and mother, Elizabeth (Maseder). Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the First Assembly of God Church, 1700 Wheaton Avenue, Millville. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the First Assembly of God Church.
