MILITARY: joined US Air Force 8 Sep 1971. Fire protection specialist at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Illinois. Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand, Aug 1974 to Aug 1975 during the Vietnam War; During the war, he served in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, rescuing downed pilots and other personnel who were in danger in the jungles. He returned to the States to March Air Force Base, Riverside, California from Sep 1975 to Jun 1978. Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Illinois as Fire Training Instructor till Aug 1982. In Jan 1982, he change his career to NCA Service Club manager. He worked at Lackland Air Force Base, Del Rio, Texas as NCO Club Manager from Sep 1982 to Oct 1982. The Air Force retired him on 8 Dec 1982 at rank of staff sergeant with 11 years of service due to illness. He died from acute myocytic leukemia caused by exposure to agent orange while serving in Vietnam. He received six service medals, including one for saving a pilot's life. Medals included: National Defense, Unit Citation, Presidential Unit Citation, Sharpshooter, Good Conduct, and US Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service as a Fire Protection Specialist with the 388th Civil Engineering Squadron (for saving a pilot's life whose plane had crashed on the airfield. Larry pulled him out of the plane). He died in the hospital at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas from leukemia caused by exposure to Agent Orange.
