    OBITUARY: May Smith, born March 6, 1926, departed this life on Wednesday, August 12 at her residence in Gays Creek. She was 83 years of age at the time of her passing. May was born in Breathitt County, the daughter of the late Marcus Stidham and the late Polly Ann Neace Stidham. She was a member of the Gays Creek Pentecostal Church of the Lord Jesus. She was a retired cook by occupation and enjoyed singing and was a member of the Buckhorn Lions Club. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Billie Smith; son Oscar Smith, one brother, and three sisters. She is survived by sons Roger Dale Smith, Billy Ray Smith, and Paul Vernon Smith, all of Gays Creek, Leo Smith of Augusta, Georgia, and Donnie Wayne Smith of Krypton; daughters Lillie Slone of Whick, Kentucky, Dorothy Collins of Hazard, and Carol Bowling of Gays Creek; two brothers and seven sisters; 22 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; plus a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services for Mrs. May Stidham Smith were held at the Gays Creek Pentecostal Church of the Lord Jesus on Saturday, August 15 with Krauc Noble, Jim Sluss, Ed Baker, and Logan Noble officiating. Burial followed at the Smith & Stidham Cemetery located at Gays Creek. Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard was in charge of arrangements. (Hazard Herald, Aug, 26, 2009)
