Travis was a fine guitarist,who traveled and played with Chet Atkins,and many other country music greats before they made it big.But due to the fact he was on the road continously during this time,his wife Violet left him.Travis promised her that if she would come back,he would never play another guitar.He sold his Gibson acoustic guitar to Herbert Flippo for $5,which he had earned picking cotton.Travis drove a Model A back then.He later began playing the piano in church,and toured all over the country playing Gospel.He was an insurance agent in Hamilton,AL.,up until recently. - SOURCE: Dan Flippo (hdupriest-at-sc.rr.com), email dated 27 Dec 2001 with attached manuscript entitled "Descendants of Ed Stidham."
