ID: I2287
Name: John HENDERSON
Sex: M
Note: !NOTE: Family legend states they were from Ireland, though the McDonald name makes me think Scotland. Children are NOT verified at this point, but were added to show the orphaned children of "William Thomas". One person has a John Jasper Henderson b. ~1770 in Scotland, marrying in Ireland and then dying after 1810 in Roane County, Tennessee. Children were listed as John 1794 Scotland, ? 1796 Ireland, William Thomas 1798 Scotland/Ireland, Lovel R [Lavin/Savin R!] 1800 Ireland, son 1803 Ireland, Seabird 1805 SC/Ireland. Who knows? I also have Levi and Ephraun 1803, Burnett Murray, John, William Thomas, and Sebird. NOTE: In Roane County until in 1817 it became Morgan County. NOTE: Barnett/Burnett HENDERSON turns up a bit in 1810 in Warren, KY quite a few Henderson's, one a Burnett 40010-20010-09 In 1860 in Spartanburg SC a Robert 53 SC HENDERSON has a son Barnett 12 SC HENDERSON. NOTE: Morgan County, TN Original Deed Book C From a transcription, apparently the heirs of John Henderson recorded their father's original grant and then went on and recorded indentures for the selling of their "undividied moiety" of "one hundred acres, it being the same land granted to John Henderson and heirs by the State of Tennessee by Grant No. 17508 bearing date the sixth day of August 1832...." to Jefferson LAVENDER. Only the first three are listed as sons, but each indenture is listed the same and so I am ASSUMING that all are siblings. By this thought, the children of John HENDERSON are: Thomas, Sebird, William, Polly (Mary), Viney (Malvina), Sarah, Lovin R, Carter, and Burnett HENDERSON. John and Ephraim are not mentioned even though both are alive. I am going to list them as first cousins because of this. --original grant 6 Aug 1832 --pp 111-3: 9 Aug 1832; Thomas, Sebyrd and William HENDERSON "sons & heirs at law to John Henderson, deceased"; witnessed by James GUFFEE, and D S and G W LAVENDER --pp 113-5: 9 Aug 1832; Elijah LAVENDER "and wife Polly"; witnessed by D S LAVENDER and Burnett HENDERSON; it is specifically mentioned that she signed of her own free will, which makes me think it was HER inheritance --pp 115-7: 9 Aug 1832; Barnard M KINGTON "and wife Viney"; witnessed by Sebird HENDERSON and D S LAVENDER --gap in time --pp 127-9: 15 October 1832; William FLIMM "and wife Sarah of the County of White and State of Tennessee"; witnessed by Sebird & Thomas HENDERSON; also noted that Elijah LAVENDER and Sebird and Thomas witnessed the above signing. --pp 129-131: 20 Oct 1832; Carter HENDERSON "of the county of Jackson and State of Alabama"; witnessed by Sebird & Thomas; also noted that they witnessed the signing. --pp 131-3: 24 Oct 1832; Lovin R and Burnett HENDERSON; witnessed by Eldredge MYATT, George ADAMS and G W LAVENDER; I have no idea why these two did not sign earlier as they are from Morgan County. !FAMILY: Wattsburg [Wartsburg?] Morgan County, Tennessee D Book 6, page 111. There is a mention of an indenture and talks of an exchange of property and names the "sons of the late John Henderson." !CENSUS: 1830 Census finds four Henderson household's in Morgan County: Lavin R is in his 30s with a wife in 20s Sebird is in his 20s with a wife in 20s and a daughter under 5. Ephraim is in his 20s with a wife in 20s Oma (John?) is in his 20s with his two boys between 15 and 20 (I imagine his brothers, William Thomas and Burnett). His wife is in her 20s and there is an older woman (mother?) in 50s. TAX LIST: 1836 Morgan County, Tennessee Tax List has six Henderson's. Second District: Charles (Lovin's oldest?), Ephraim; Third District: John (with Andrew HAMBY and William, James, and Larkin SNOW); Seventh District: Burnett, Thomas, and Seabird. !CENSUS: 1840 Census finds only three Henderson household's in Morgan County: Ephraim is in his 30s, and his wife is mysteriously in her 40s. He seems to have his mother in his houshold, in her 60s. He has one son and two daughters under 5, one son and daughter between 5 and 10, and a girl between 15 and 20 (a servant?). John is now in his 50s(?) with wife in 30s and a daughter between 5 and 10, two sons under 5, two 5-10, two 10-15, and three 15-20. (These children must not have been counted in 1830, because this DOES match the 1850 pretty well) Margret (WIDOW of who?) is in her 30s and she has a son between 10 and 15 and a son between 15 and 20. !CENSUS 1850 Census finds five Henderson household's in Morgan County: John is still there with family, two sons living on their own nearby. The widow Margaret is still there and now there is the widow Esther, this has to be Ephraim's.
