"Mrs. Eiland was born May 25, 1843 died June 14, 1921. She was 77 years 5 months and 14 days old at the time of her death. When about 30 years of age she was married to C. W. Lee. To this union three children were born; one of these preceding her to the better world. Some years after the death of her first husband she was married to J. R. Eiland. To this union, Mrs. S. W. Johnson was born, in whose home she passed away. She united with the Baptist Church at the age of 18 years. For 59years she lived a devoted consecrated Christian life." ------------------------------------
[LeeKeeth.FTW] from Melvin Spencer: "The Keeth family according to family story, settled in Texas after supposedly being 'encouraged' to leave Corinth, Mississippi, because oftheir outspoken opposition to slavery. C.W. Lee and Mary Keith married and settled in Clay County, Texas. They had adjoining farms with her sister and family, Martha Keith and James Eiland. C.W. Lee Sr died, leaving young son's Ted and C.W. Jr. Mary Keeth Lee then married her brother in law sometime after her sister Martha died. Her sister left a baby, 'Uncle Matt' and Mary Lee was caring for him. I was told she did not want to marry again but Uncle Jim said he was going toget married. If she did not marry him then he would take Matt and the others and find someone else to marry. She did not want to give upMatt and married. That made Gramp Lee (C.W. Jr) and Uncle Matt firstcousins and step brothers. Jim and Mary then had Aunt Lee Eiland a half sister to Gramps Lee. In later years Mary Lee lived with C.W. Jrand Viola Lee. "C.W. Lee Sr and Mary Keith had two sons, Edwin Ted and Columbus Waine. She was pregnant with Richard Henry when C.W. died. Richard Henrydid not live long. " (this may be also why she attached to Matt herbaby nephew)
Pat Lee received a letter in 1980 from Aunt Katy Lee that was writtenby a cousin, Mrs. Goodman. Pat had asked Katy if she knew any of theLee family history. Here is part of that letter: "The Keeths and Martha and James Eiland and Aunty Fannie, a small child, came to Texas soon after the civil war. Mary Keeth our grandmother had lost her sweetheart to the civil war and she met Mr. Lee. I don't know his name, were married in Texas. Our great grandparents. The Keeths are buried in the Shannon Cemetery in Clay County. Mr. Lee your grandfather is buried there also. I think Aunty put tombs to her parents graves. I think the great grandparents, this Mr. Lee and Aunt Fannie's mother died in a short time of each other. They came from Corinth, Miss. Theywere Baptist. They had homesteaded land in Clay County. I am sure in the Lee Bible you can find Mr. Lee's name. The first pioneers had life very rough. Love, The Goodmans"
