    Thomas Jewell a.27, miller, came in the Planter in April 1635, from Kingston, Co., Surrey, England.
    On Feb.24,1639(40) "Thomas Jewell of the Mount, milner", had a land grant from the town of Boston for three heads, 12 acres. His land was west of Franklin St. near Water St., Quincy.
    He died at Braintree about July 1654 when his will was proved.
    He married, probably before coming to Braintree, Grizzell Fletcher, daughter of Robert Fletcher who settled at Concord and Chelmsford.

    Will of Thomas Jewell of Brantrey. All to wife as long as she is a widow, if she marry then in three parts, two to my children, the third to heirs. William Needam & Thomas Foster to take care and oversight of estate for my wife and children, Apr.10,1654.
    Witnesses: William Scant, Hannah Harbor.

    Oct.5,1655 Humphrey Griggs of Braintree who is suddenly to marry the relict of Tho. Jewell acknowledged it was agreed between him & Tho. Foster & Wm. Needam that said Griggs was to have sole benefit of the estate to bring up all the children till they were fit to be put apprentice, causing them to read, and did bind himself to pay each child 7/10/ at age of 21 ye sonnes, at marriage or 18 ye daughters, and to ye eldest sonne 15 at 21.

    Letter to selectmen of Mendon from William Flecher & John Birge both of Chelmsford guardians to the child of the widow Gurney (that was) and last of all wife to above said John Burge, she did will unto her son Joseph Juell all that accommodation that was there at the town of Mendon laid out and given to her ye said widow Gurney upon this condition that said Joseph Jewell do pay to Nathaniel Juell and Mercy Juell 15 and to Sherebiah Keby 7.
    Our desire and request is for Selectmen of Mendon to record said accommodation to Joseph Juell. Dated Chelmsford 5th of 4th mo. 1675. Recorded 21st of 4th mo. 1675. On same page is recorded.

    Joseph Juell & w. Isabel of Portsmouth, N.H., miller, assigns it to Samuel Read of Mendon as attorney to sell it Aug.8,1682. Nov.21,1684 it was sold to Josiah Chapin by Wm. Needam of Boston for Joseph Juell of Newbury.
