White, 916 Elizabeth Street, Gilmer, TX 75644 (903) 843-3426, Feb. 1993, information from Benjamin Franklin on Fido, in a 1993 NOTE FROM HELEN SILVEY: Quotes three reliable sources, Richard W. Kesler, Betty White and Benjamin Franklin, give the names of the parents of Maj. Lawrence Smith as Christopher Smith of Stoneyhurst and Elizabeth Townley Halstead.

    The computer at LDS has the wrong info. LDS AF, March, 1994, AFN: JW6D-97; LDS AF, April 1994, AFN: JW6D-82. The Colonial Gen., v. VII, #3. LDS AF, March, 1994, AFN 9JZM-GF gives only the first name of Mary [Debnam]. Marcia B. Luther, 810 Idlewilde #4, Helena, MT 59601 (406) 449-5629 references his parents Lawrence Smith and Jane Warburton in the Medieval Families Unit of the LDS Church. The christenings of their children were from actual christening records of Burnley Parish, Lancashire, England, and a book called Shropshire and Allied Families by Lennae S. Drew. Richard W. Kesler (2 Nov 1998) The parents of Maj. Lawrence Smith were Christopher Smith and Elizabeth Townley. Ref. 1 "A Discovery Concerning the Townley and Warner Families of Virginia," by Mary Burton Derrickson McPurdy in Genealogies of Virginia Families from the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, vol. 5, pp. 564-565. On p. 564 of Reference 1, there is a Figure 4--Dugdale's Chart of Townely of Stonehenge, "Elizabeth married first Mr. Richard Halsted of Windlehouse; second, Christopher Smith.
