Leaving Aberdeen between 1937 and 1947 he went to Fleetwood, Lancashire and worked for
J.Marr and Sons as a trawler Skipper.

Military service. Between 1907 and 1930 he won a long service medal for 23 years with the Royal Navy Reserve, making 150 mine sweeping forays during the war (WW1).

The London Gazette of 24 September 1930 records Ch Skipper J.A.Mews placed on retired list with rank of Skipper Lieutenant as of September 22.

Died: 2 September 1953 in Fleetwood, Lancashire
