Oct. 15, 1914 - Feb. 18, 2008 FORT MYERS, FL - Raymond G. Sloan III of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Middletown, OH died Monday, February 18, 2008, in Ft. Myers following a short Illness. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Mary S. (William) Welsheimer of South Bend; two sons, R. Gibson Sloan, III of Kansas City, MO and William J. Sloan of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Drew and Holly Welsheimer and Jesse and Jared Sloan. Cremation will take place in Florida. Memorial services and burial will be held in Middletown.

SLOAN, Raymond G. Raymond G. Sloan, 93, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Middletown and Monroe, died Monday, February 18, 2008, in Fort Myers, following a brief illness. He was born in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1914 to parents Raymond and Helen (Otley) Sloan. Mr. Sloan was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Penn State University and proudly wore his Nittany Lion jacket and tie for every televised football game. He retired from Armco Steel as an executive after 38 years of service and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Middletown, where he served as an elder, Sunday School teacher, and in many other aspects of the church and also served as President of the Board of Ohio Presbyterian Homes. In 1975, he was appointed by President Gerald Ford to serve on the United States Metric Board to coordinate the voluntary conversion to the metric system. He was an avid wood worker and following his retirement spent countless hours on many projects. He also enjoyed his time on the golf course. His finest legacy were the years of improving and maintaining the Augspurger family farm on Greentree Rd., where he lived for many years and raised his family. He also lived in Monroe at Mt. Pleasant for a number of years before moving to Fort Myers several years ago. Mr. Sloan is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Dozer) Sloan; a daughter, Mary S. (William) Welsheimer; two sons, R. Gibson Sloan III and William J. Sloan; four grandchildren, Drew Welsheimer, Holly Welsheimer, Jesse Sloan, and Jared Sloan; a sister, Jane Babbitt; step children, Kelli Faulconer, Judy McLeese, and Sharon Duell; and step grandchildren, Jay Cooperrider, Jeff Cooperrider, Julie Murphy, Megan Faulconer, Jillian Faulconer, Doug Duell, and Greg Duell. He was preceded in death by wives, Iutzi and June; and his parents. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, with Reverend L. Timothy Doty officiating. Cremation has taken place in Florida and private family inurnment will take place at Mound Cemetery in Monroe.
