    DAR says he was a Sgt. in Revolutionary War from PA. I'm assuming this is incorrect and his father was the Sergant. This is IAW Steve Houser research which also has this Samuel as the son of Samuel and Nancy Carlyle Sloan with a sister Mary Sloan Glendenning.

    Houser says:"supposedly came to Crawford Co. PA in 1811, appointed to committee of vigilance for Mead Township per 6/5/1811 Crawford Weekly Messenger. Fought in the War of 1812: served from 7/19/1813 to 8/10/1813 in Captain James Cochran's Co 137 Regiment PA militia infantry. 7/31/1811 advertisement in Crawford Weekly Messenger: Wool Carding machine in complete operation after much trouble and expense, on the farm of Cornelius Van Horne: 5 to 10 cents per pound (ad submitted 6/20/1811) supposedly infirm at the time of first son Joseph's death by lightning in 1828, according to the article detailing Joseph's death; still had 3 childen from 1828 to 1835."
