NC. age 6. 1796, 10 Feb: Thomas Sloan & siblings sign as receivers of father, James Sloan's estate. 1799: Moved to TN. age 39. 1812: Moved to Hopkins Co. Ky. age 52. 1832: He filed for his pension in McLean Co. IL. ********** The following is taken from the records of the County Commissioners' Court for Dec 1832". "John Scott came into open Court and on his oath made a declaration purporting to prove himself a revolutionary soldier, for the purpose of obtaining the benefit of the act of Congress, passed June the 7th, D. D. 1832." Eight others were certified by the Court as being such. They were Ebenezer Barnes, William McGhee, Thomas Sloan, Edward F. Patrick, Charles Moore, William Vincent, Edward Day and John Toliday." ********** Judith Hempel provied the following abstract from Pension # 32522: Thomas Sloan wounded in left thigh and right arm in hospital 2 months. Carried home in baggage wagon and unable to work for 2 months. Fall, 1776 enlisted under Capt. Robert Smith in Col. Adam Alexander's Reg. NC line 2 months. Winter 1779 enlisted Capt. Wm. Alexander's Co. near Charleston, SC 3 months. Summer 1780 enlisted Capt. Wilson's Co., under Magor Graham, Capt. Dickinson at Polker Mills 4 months. Fall 1781 enlisted Capt. Wm. Gardner's Co., in the Kentucky Command under Col. Fife in Gen. Rutherford's Brigade and fought at Wilmington. Fall 1777 enlisted in Capt. Wm. Alexsander's Co. stationed Camden 3 months. Aug. 1778 enlisted Capt. Hardin's co., stationed Wilmington 3 months. Dec. 1778 enlisted Capt. John Brumfield's Co., under Gen. Rutherford. 1790: James Sr, Jr, Thomas Sloan & John Sloan listed together w/Gardners, Alexanders. In his pension application he stated that he was born 22 October 1760 and moved to Mecklenburg Co., NC at age 6. in 1799 moved to TN and resided there 13 years. He then moved to Hopkins Co., KY in 1812 and resided there 8 years. His brother Joseph Sloan ( my ancestor) was also in Hopkins Co., Ky at this time. by 1820 he had moved to Edwards Co., Ill as recorded in the 1820 Census for the county. and sometime after that he moved to McLean Co., Illinois. In 1832 he filed for his pension in McLean Co., IL. By 1840 Thoms is listed in Wayne Co., Illinois with 1 M age 70-80, 1 M 15-20, 1 F 30-40, 1 F 5-10 and 1 F 0-5. According to the Hist. of Wayne and Clay Co., IL he was about 79 years of age in 1840. He died 4 Mar 1842 McLean Co., IL and is buried at Bovee Cemetery. There is a memorial marker for Thomas Sloan in the Veteran's section of the Maple Hill Cemetery. He left a widow but name was not given. Apparently, she did not file for a pension through Thomas as there is no record in the archives.
