Jan 2000, Beverly Sloan Shuler says: "David's brother (older?) William, served as a Lt., in same unit, if I remember correctly. Both got land in Franklin Co., GA, for their services - or rather, perhaps, just because they had served in the Revolution, and not directly "for their service." William got 400 acres (an Officers's grant), and David 200 acres (an enlisted man's grant) , on the waters of Martin's Creek and Coneross Creek. In 1787, this part of Franklin Co., GA, was put into Pendleton District, SC, when they moved the boundary line between the two states from the Keowee River to the Tugaloo River. This is really important in tracing his family. .....
David and Susannah Majors m. in 1784; William and Polly Perkins m. same year. There were two land grants there for William Sloan, "on both sides of the Roaring River." It is a little settlement near Wilkesboro, NC."

Dispute between David Sloan and Polly Sloan, widow of William Sloan, deceased has come up for arbitration. The arbitrators have met with both on 9-12-1796. David produced a bil of sale for two slaves executed by William Sloan, dated 7-18-1794. Although proof was adequate what William did sign the sale bill, there was no evidence of payment of a "consideration" or delivery of the slaves to David. Polly and several witnesses testified that one Hunter in Georgia at the first settlement of this Country had employed William Sloan as a deputy Surveyor, and had put Warrants, from the Georgia land office, into his hands to survey a Quantity of land, which was not done by the said William to the satisfaction of the said Hunter, who commenced suit for damages in this State vs. William, who obtained a nonsuit in our court vs. the said Hunter. Hunter renewed his suit by writ of attachment in Georgia, and William attended the court to which this writ was returned. The writ was overturned in Georgia about 7-15-1794. William was advised by his council and friends that HUNER was preparing to take him in Georgia, and William on their advice fled to South Carolina, but told a witness that he would immediately make over his property lest Hunter should recover unjustly against him. The bill of sale bears date July 16, 1794. William later told the witness and several others that he had made over his property to his brother, David, or that he had given a bill of sale to the two negroes to brother David on purpose to secure them from Hunter. William did offer to sell both of the negroes more than a year after the date of the bill of sale, but shortly before his death. When the witness reported this to David, David said he had a good bill of sale, though William was at liberty to take them back any time in his lifetime. David did not claim to have taken the slaves from the widow, nor claimed to have paid money for them. The arbiters decided that the two slaves were the property of William Sloan's estate notwithstanding the bill of sale.

Paul Sherman say:"William Sloan, brother of David, had a daughter but I am almost certain he did not have a son. William deeded land in Georgia in 1794 to David Sloan, Jr and William Sloan, Jr. Both of these deeds were to his nephews, sons of David. The price was just a few schillings and the transfer seemed to more of a gift than a legitimate business transaction. Both boys were quite young at the time and David Jr. sold his land years later. William, Jr reportedly died when he was around twenty years old and I do not know the disposition of his land."
