    NC Troops says:"Robert E Sloan, Sgt. born in Mecklenburg County where he resided as a farmer and enlisted at age 18, June 25 1861 for the war. Mustered in as a private and appointed corporal April 1, 1862. Promoded to Sergeant July-August 1862. Wounded at Bristoe Station, October 14, 1863. Died of his wounds at Richmond Va., October 27, 1863, and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. Addenda says wounded in shoulder"
