Hanover Twp. **************************************************************** 1734, 8 Jun: Land warrent for 200 acres in Lebanon Twp. to John Sloan. Also son George Sloan on same day. {I'm assuming this is John Sr. not Jr. f.e.m.} ***** John Sloan's will: In the name of God Amen the 31st day of August 1741, I John Sloan of Lebanon Township and County of Lancaster Yeoman being very sick and weak in body but ......... I give and bequeath unto Jean my dearly beloved wife the number of 30 yards of ten hundred linen cloth. Item to my son James, I order that horse called Doonell together with saddle and bridle , to my son Robert ... to my son William....to my son John.... to my son George....to my daughter Serah....to my dau Auquas/Cinquas... Son James to lay in a fall crop. Executors: James Walker, George Espy, William Sloan & William McCoard. Witness: Horace Bratton, Robert McConnell & Josias Espy. Jas Miller & Jas Cambell performed inventory 22 Sep 1741. Proven 30 Sep 1741. *********************** Ingle's says John is ancestor of the Sloans of Hanover Twp Dauphin/Lancaster Co. However, he does not make a connection with any. ********** Monita & Loella believe he is the ancestor of the Ironmaster line that goes to Looney Creek in Va. then Mecklenburg & Rowan Co. NC. ********** A 1991 Family group sheet from Louella Young has these comments: I believe the family come to Pa. 1729 on the ship "Diligence" or "Diligence of Glasgow" (See will of John Hamilton). Says that children are from an unknown 1st wife and he m. 2nd a widow Jane/Jean Espy Gilchrist dau of Josiah Espy & Priscilla Mitchell. He is buried at Derry Presbyterian Church Cemetery, near Hershey, Dauphin Co. PA. {I don't think this burial is correct! I suspect John Sloan son of Archibald is buried in the Derry Cemetery. f.e.m.} ********** NOTE: The John/Jean Sloan that d. 1741 Lebanon Twp looks alot like the John/Jean Sloan of Donegal/Derry Twp. however children don't match. {f.e.m.} Sources: 1.
