  • Name: Esther Rachel bat Yosef 2
  • Note:
The big question is, why is Rosa Siberez' name on her gravestone Esther bat Yosef? This would directly contradict her stated paternity of Harry Tzvi.
We know Silberstein was her real name because it is clearly written on at least four of the children's birth certificates. More suspicious is her death certificate, where items 9 through 13 are written in a masculine juvenile script, while the rest is written in the mature script of a doctor. The forged lines describe her as born in Argentina SA, misspelled "Argentine", which ironically means "silver". It says her mother Rosa Simpson and father Johonn Siberez were both born in "Argentine". Rosa died in a Manhattan hospital, with the doctor listing his address as a hotel. If he was the family doctor from the Frooks' home town of Saugerties and tending her death, that would have made it easy for a son to falsify the death certificate. At the time of her death her youngest son was 23 and the next youngest was 27. It seems likely one of these sons, probably the youngest, went to the trouble of covering up his deceased mother's illegitimacy.
The logical explanation is that she was born Rachel Silverstein "bat Yosef", meaning daughter of Joseph Silverstein. She would have been adopted by Johonn Silberstein, apparently her uncle, Joseph's brother. This would have made her half-sister to Shaindel Cypress, died 1926, whom Abraham married. "Siberez" would have been a Spanish pronunciation of Cypress, her sister's father's name. All this says that Joseph had an affair with Rosa Simpson, the result being Rosa Cypress Silverstein, who was given to Joseph's brother who took her to Argentina where he had a job as an engineer. It was the Frooks' son's shame of of his mother's illegitimacy that was his motivation to lie on her death certificate.
